TRIP REPORT: Show trip details

Due to numerous reasons this was my first serious mountain walk for a wee while.
My day began at around 9 30 when my two friends and I left Mamore lodge and began our walk up to Coire an lochan.
There was quite a few walkers on the track up there and in fact there was a group of about 40 people belonging to a walking club out for the day to celebrate one of their members completion of all the Munros. I never did find out which mountain was his final Munro.
After 2 ½ hours of walking we finally arrived at Corie an lochan. On the way up there we had magnificent views of Loch Leven and the pap of Glencoe and a fantastic panorama of all the Glencoe hills.
As I’m a keen flyfisherman as well as an enthusiastic hillwalker I couldn’t resist taking my travel rod and a box of flies with me and having a few casts on Corie an Lochan.
My two non-fishing companions left me at the lochan and continued on over to Binnien Beag. I arranged to meet them up on Binnien MOR later in the day after I had an hour or so on the lochan.
I had lunch at the lochan and spent around half hour fishing but to no avail. There was plenty of fly life around but sadly no sign of any fish.
I decide to leave my fishing for another day and made my way up the beautifully engineered stalkers path up to Sgurr Elide Beag and then mad my way up to the unnamed top which in turn led up the slopes to Binnien Mor
After bagging the summit for the second time in my life I returned to the unnamed top to wait on my mates and take in all the views. In particular the view over to the Ben was excellent and I couldn’t resist taking numerous photos from my splendid viewpoint.
After a twenty-minute wait my mates finally made an appearance on the summit and eventually met up with me and we made our return journey back down to Mamore Lodge.
Our day could not be complete without our customary Après Pints which we downed in Paddy’s Bar in Tyndrum followed by a fish supper in the new Chip shop which used to be the Little Chef in the said village.

Here are some pics from my day in the mamores

Thanks for that Chief!! Very Happy

What sort of travel rod do you use? I fish too (not nearly as much as I used to) and have often thought about getting a telescopic rod to take with me to the hills.

I have a couple of travel rods. I have a Daiwa Lochmore 4 piece rod and a Daiwa Tri force six piece. I used the Tri Force last Saturday. May I recommend fly fishing in a loch that is known locally as the Gillaroo loch up in among the hills of Ben more {Assynt] Fantastic fishing and fantastic scenery

Cheers for the advice.

I'm heading over to Jura for my annual fishing weekend next week (26th-28th May) but can use my normal rod there. Superb fishing for wild brownies.

Smile
