Astronick, be careful with those Titanium v pegs , they have a weakness near the top where there is a narrower section this means they can easily break if you need to hammer them in to tough ground. another tip replace the guylines with longer ones this will help you get a better and tighter pitch, hope this helps

Richard, thanks for the advice! I now have the original tooth-picks, the two substantial stakes from BPL, a set of the titanium v stakes from Alpkit and have a set of the Eastons on the way (thanks for the advice edwood!). Hopefully this will give me a decent choice for differing ground quality! Smile

I'll take a look at the guys also but might see how I get on during the next trip or two before making further tweaks.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Terra Nova - might be worth a call? I had no luck getting a response from Mountain Equipment by e-mail but a phone call had things sorted within about five minutes!

I have the earlier model of this tent - the Laser Lite.

Its been perfect for 5 years or so of regular use. even all but 1 of the carbon fibre pegs have survived!

I've used it cycling, kayaking, backpacking, and its performed really well for 3 season weather.

You do have to be careful pitching it but as others have said you soon learn how to maximise space and wind resistance.

I've had my Laser Competition (a green one) for just over a year now and used it for a few multi-day trips. Like everyone else, I replaced the pegs almost immediately (I carry the originals as spares) and have just experimented to get the tent pitched right.

Once I get the pole in, I get the ends pitched and then go round getting the fly nailed down. Then I nip inside, fiddle with the wee uprights at each end before I do the guy ropes.

Keep getting out with it and fiddle around with it and you'll get it the way you want it!

Nice pics by the way -- the red looks good in photos!

Got out in my comp for a camp at the weekend. Pitched next to the Hutchison hut and did Beinn Mheadhoin at 8 pm.

Spot the tent.

Loved it!

Only problem was that the wee catch that holds the door closed broke in the morning, not too happy about this and will e mail TN. I think the old metal ring and hook would have been tougher.

What did you do about it? Im wondering if i can be arsed sending it away and waiting for it to be fixed and returned, then waiting in for the delivery only to have it maybe break again. Could just buy another clip and tie it onto the bit tape that the original was attached to.

I emailed Customer services this morning asking for them to send me a new clip so I could attach it myself. Got a reply back later today asking for me to confirm my address so they could post it out, and that they would also pass the email onto the development team.

The address is: CustomerServices@terra-nova.co.uk

Hi there - must be you we met at the Hutchinson Hut last Sunday.
I've always found Terra Nova very helpful and quick so definately worth contacting them. They have even repaired stuff at minimal cost when the damage was clearly my fault.
I was very impressed how fast you pitched your tent considering its new. Your's looked considerably better than mine and I've been practising for 4 years! I do love my laser and hope you'll have many good trips with it.
Also very impressed with your determination to get up beinn Mheadoin in driving rain, wind and failing light.
Will hopefully post a trip report on Alex's first 3 Munros soon

Small world isn't it Very Happy How did you get on with the other Munros in the morning? I just walked right out to the car.

Heres a link to the photies i took, not too many and strangely none of my own tent Confused

http://s578.photobucket.com/albums/ss226/gagfax/Beinn%20Mheadhoin%20camp/

And a small daft video from the tent

Video

The trip wasn't really about summits but more to test the backpacking gear and iron out any wrinkles. All seems ok Smile

Quite easy going over the munros east of Glen Derry. I was expecting much more bog.
Poor Pearl's feet were so sore she couldn't walk far for the rest of the week but we improvisied!

Managed 3 more Munros with Pearl in the sack and Alex got the 6 to the east of the A93 with my husband later in the week making a total of 14 for his first trip.

Still on the theme of the door clip ... I received my replacement clip yesterday in the post. Well done Terra Nova!
