TRIP REPORT: Show trip details MORE REPORTS: View all trip reports by this author
Calendar Event: October 17, 2009 With a superb weather forecast , I decided it was time to get my Donald total moving and with half a day available set off for Wanlockhead .
I decided to bag the easy trio and leave the other more interesting (?) Donalds for another longer day .
So 845 am found me booted up in the car park just above the village
[img]http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll88/stanley37uk/047.jpg[/img
Set off at a fair lick up the good path
Soon joining a rather unpleasant tarmac road , I took the advice of the SMG Corbett book and branched off right at a bend in the road to follow a grassy track to the col between East Mount Lowther and Lowther Hill
Looking to East Mount Lowther
Ssssh don’t look round to Lowther Hill
At the summit of EML looking to Lowther Hill – I reached EML in just 48 mins from the car .
Now almost at the summit of LH and looking over to a real hill
Unmentionable things , I wondered if Martians were going to come out and capture me !!
I read that the actual summit is inside the “ verboten “ area but did find this pile of stones
The horrible tarmac road to Green Lowther
And more clutter

Looking back to LH
And to proper hillwalking , is this the way to the other donalds or do you turn right ( did’nt have map )
I almost missed the trig point
Back to LH and down the same path , I noted several folk with prams and buggies and it was getting really busy .
Overall quite a nice half day it you forget about the clutter . Could be a bit spooky in mist . Back to the car in just 2 hours 45 , not sure how many K .
Would recommend EML , a very nice hill .

| Have only ever seen these hills from below, I maybe tempted up them next time though. I actually loved the dinky wee road on Lowther, it looks great. |

I did these hills in some of the thickest mist I have ver walked it.
Taking a direct-ish line from East Mount Lowther to Cold Moss was quite a good navigational challenge particularly when a new, unmapped fence was met on route.
The buildings and masts on Lowther Hill and Green Lowther were very creepy in the mist. I have to say, in those conditions I was quite glad of the tarmac.
I did the whole ridge down to Louise Wood Law that day and later on in the day the cloud lifted and it ended up being quite a nice day.
Oct 17 was a great day. I was up Ben Vane in the Trossachs. |

This report deserves a bump because your evident online re-arranging of photos has produced some hilarious results |

I've been struggling to match images with text too - I'm glad it's not just my faulty memory. Where's the giant golf ball gone? _________________ agentmancuso's POI files

Run over by a bus. I believe the TransLowther Tramlink is much delayed. Baggers should allow extra time for roadworks if taking the A844 up from Wanlockhead.
PS got the Lowther Hill top quite easily last time. _________________ One degree is not a large distance
